PREPARATION CLASSES FOR GRANDPARENTS, SIBLINGS

Expectant Fathers - Northwestern Memorial Hospital

Expectant Grandparents -Northwestern Memorial Hospital. This session for soon-to-be grandparents discusses current trends in childbirth and tips for supporting new parents. Fees: $10/person, $15/couple

Boot Camp For New Dads 
Condell Medical Center, 801 South Milwaukee Avenue, Libertyville, IL, (847) 362-2905 ext. 5407
This course "Boot Camp For Dads" is offered at Condell Medical Center and provides new dads with expert guidance from veteran fathers and parenting specialists. Offered as a three-hour workshop.

Family Matters
Designed to meet the needs of parents who wish to have their child (children) present at the labor and vaginal delivery of their sibling. Call for dates and times.

Tike Hike
This class helps prepare soon-to-be older brothers and sisters for their new sibling. Includes a tour of Prentice. Children receive a sticker and certificate for attending.
Every Thursday; 11 am to 12 pm

Breastfeeding Preparation Classes

Breast-feeding Class - This two-hour class is designed for expectant mothers in the third trimester of pregnancy. Participants will learn about breast-feeding positions and techniques, nutrition, common problems, and helpful solutions. Fathers are welcome!

Breastfeeding Support - Support for breastfeeding mothers is available through the Boven Birth Center's "Breastfeeding Support Team." This team is comprised of Internationally Certified Lactation Consultants who are available by phone seven days a week by dialing 394-3269. One-to-one consults and outpatient appointments are also available by calling this number.

"An IBCLC is a health care professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners Inc. under the direction of the US National Commission for Certifying Agencies. IBCLCs work in a variety of health care settings including hospitals, pediatric offices, public health clinics, and private practice."

An IBCLC offers a variety of services which may include:

• prenatal breastfeeding education

• postnatal hospital, clinic, and office visits

• home visits

• educational literature

• rental of hospital-grade electric breast pumps

• new mothers' support groups

Schedule an appointment with an IBCLC for any of the following:

• nipple or breast pain

• latch on difficulties

• flat or inverted nipples

• low milk supply

• slow weight gain

• crying or colicky baby

• breastfeeding a premature baby

• breastfeeding twins and triplets

• relactation and adoptive breastfeeding

• breastfeeding and return to employment outside the home

• pumping and storing breastmilk

• special needs baby eg Down Syndrome, cleft lip and/or palate

• reassurance that breastfeeding is going well
