Participants will learn about breast-feeding positions and techniques, nutrition, common problems, and helpful solutions. Fathers are welcome! Childbirth For New Parents - Expectant mothers in their third trimester (and their labor coaches) will benefit from this class with information about the stages of labor, relaxation techniques, breathing patterns, and comfort measures. Evening and weekend classes are offered this year. Bring two pillows and a large towel to class each week and dress comfortably as some activities take place on the floor. First Class Delivery Pre-Natal Education for Teens - This 6-week class, offered four times per year, is designed for expectant teens and their support person(s) and aims to alleviate some of the fears associated with labor and delivery. The class addresses breathing techniques, parenting skills, infant feeding and nutrition, characteristics of a newborn and postpartum. Zeeland Community Hospital tours included. This class is a collaborative effort of the Ottawa County Health Department, Zeeland Community Hospital and Holland Hospital. Classes are six weeks long. Class activities include a story, learning to hold a newborn, and touring the Family Birth Center. Each child receives a "goody bag" too! Click here to find out more about the following birth and parenting classes at Holland Hospital: Breastfeeding Support - Support for breastfeeding mothers is available through the Boven Birth Center's "Breastfeeding Support Team." This team is comprised of Internationally Certified Lactation Consultants who are available by phone seven days a week by dialing 394-3269. One-to-one consults and outpatient appointments are also available by calling this number. Baby Beepers - Beepers can be rented up to two months prior to your due date. Use one to contact your support person when needed. Better Babysitting - Kids ages nine to twelve learn basic child care principles, simple first aid and how to handle emergencies, as well as other tips for more confident babysitting. Expectant Parent - This five-week course offers information about stages of labor and delivery, relaxation techniques, delivery room, nursery care and more. Includes presentations by an obstetrician and a pediatrician, a session on baby care basics and a tour of the Boven Birth Center. Evening, morning and weekend classes are available. Expectant Parent Refresher - This two-session refresher of the Expectant Parent Class brings you up-to-date on the latest delivery, breathing and relaxation techniques. Getting Ready to Breastfeed - Learn what to expect in the first few weeks, how to manage breastfeeding and going back to work or school, and which products are helpful. I'm a New Big Brother/Big Sister - Help your children, ages 3 to 9, adjust to the arrival of a new brother or sister. Class includes a tour of the Boven Birth Center. Infant and Child CPR (Informational) - Learn how to help an infant or child who is choking or experiencing respiratory or cardiac arrest.
